And What Did You Expect ?
Bill Brinkworth
Truths in the field of botany can apply to our lives, too. One principle in science is that you get what you plant. If you plant marigolds seeds, you get marigolds. If you plant tomato seeds, you certainly would not expect a crop of corn. So it is in our lives:
- If you spent most of your life doing what you want, can you really expect to get the blessing of God in your life?
- If you do not pray, do not read your Bible, do little that is spiritual, and purposely avoid doing what you know God wants you to do (going to church, reading your Bible, praying …), why do you get angry and blame God when something terrible happens in your life?
- Why do you curse or get angry with God for not answering the one prayer you have requested in many years?
- If you never get saved, why do you expect you will go to heaven rather than hell?
- Do you think your opinion or philosophy is more important than what God thinks or says, and that He will change everything He has said just because of your thoughts?
- If you let your children do what they want and certainly do not encourage them to live the way the Lord tells them to, why do you blame God (or a church) when something terrible happens to them, or their lives are headed in the wrong direction?
- If you allow your children to attend a secular school that teaches evolution, elevates ungodly lifestyles, allows the children to be exposed to ungodly examples and philosophies, why would you be surprised that their life turns out to be ungodly, unfruitful, and unhappy?
- If you allow your children to listen to the music encouraging ungodly lifestyles, allow them to view television and movies that advertise sinful behavior, or hang around children that have ungodly behavior, why are you surprised that their future lives are ruined by their wrong decisions?
- If you avoided studying, cheated when you could, and avoided many learning situations (playing video games or watching TV rather than studying), why are you surprised that you did not pass into the next grade or that you have problems learning?
- If you do not take care of your health, why do you blame God when you get sick?
- If you succumbed to the sin of smoking, drinking, or drug taking, why are you surprised that you have an addiction, your body has reaped the havoc of the sin’s participation, or you have a ruined life because of the sin’s side effects?
- If you covered up what was really happening in your life with lies and deception, why are you surprised that people in your life do not trust you, or people “just don’t understand you”?
- If you sinned and even broke laws in the past, why are you surprised you were in jail or faced some other punishment?
- If you cheated God by not tithing and giving to Him in the past, why are you surprised your financial situation is not blessed by God?
- If you spent money you did not have, why are you surprised your debts are so high?
- If you lived with a boyfriend or girlfriend, without marrying them, why are you surprised that your relationship with them is in turmoil or has failed? Did you really think God was going to bless such a relationship?
- If you spent time looking at other women, even though you are married, why are you surprised when you find yourself in an adulterous relationship?
- If you allowed your eyes to see ungodly pictures or movies, why are you surprised when you have wrong thoughts and commit sin?
If you purchase, plant, and sow sin, sin is what you will reap!
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7
Would you prefer a more joyful, God-directed life? If so, then plant the right things in your life. Plant a God-approved spiritual crop!
“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Galatians 6:8
